The Showtime Bird

Description

Some where in a forgotten avenue of Broadway and Theater I came upon an abandon house. Though the house was empty of all corporal life as I found the overgrown garden filled with birds and creatures that made it their home. The patio held one such bird. She sat on her little couch amidst the debris and roses that grew from the floorboards. She was looking at nothing in particular but was startled when she found me looking at her.

After some reassurance I sat and talked to her under the twilight sky. The Showtime Bird was once one of the birds that lived with the actress of the house when the Avenue of Theater and Broadway was filled with drama and excitement and life. She was able to leave her home and fly overhead at night to see the lives of the inhabitants unfold in stories that if I sit a spell she would tell me.

In the twilight I could hear the sounds of yesteryear and what the Showtime Bird and her companions experienced. The glamor and fame that the town thrived on. Of creatures rising to the top just to fall just as hard to the ones that didn't make it and lived obscurely through the ones that did. Of the parties, of the many parties that was held. Of the drama that ran hot thought everyone who lived and traveled though here for a spell. I thought at points that I could see the life that was once here though her stories and the Showtime bird told well of those stories.

The town dwindle as any that ran hot and burned bright would. And soon to ones left were the old creatures that known no other town and the ones that had hope that the town would once be what it was again. They too soon dwindled away. Now it was the Showtime Bird, the last of the inhabitants of the once celebrated town.

She wanted to be left there and I did when I left in the morning on my world walking travels. She sat on top of her home under the porch as walked down the street away form the Avenue.
The spirit of the town lives though the Showtime Bird. It will still be there, long after everything fell into dust. I think it is waiting for the enchanting days to come again. Maybe it will but I think the Bird will be long gone before that ever happens.

...

A time later I walked by that place again. The buildings gave way to the forest along with the home of the Showtime Bird. I didn't check if she was still around. I know she wasn't but I left a scarf, one that I found in a deprecated theater, where the now crumbled cage was with roses growing around it.

I think she would have liked the scarf as I draped it, like a banner, over a couple of roses.
